ABTraceTogether: Alberta's COVID-19 Contact Tracing App
ABTraceTogether is a free contact tracing app developed by the Government of Alberta to help combat the spread of COVID-19. The app uses a secure, community-driven approach where mobile devices exchange Bluetooth-enabled secure encrypted tokens when another device with the app installed is detected nearby. The app aims to augment the existing contact tracing efforts by quickly identifying close contacts of infected persons and enabling Alberta Health Services (AHS) to provide guidance and care, reducing the spread of COVID-19 and helping protect the community.
The ABTraceTogether app is most effective if it reaches a strong penetration of usage among Albertans, which means the more people that use the app, the better the app works. The app requires location and Bluetooth permissions to operate, but personal and location information is not used, captured, or stored. The ABTraceTogether app is intended for ages 14+ and is only for case and contact tracing to identify possible exposures to COVID-19, not for diagnosis or treatment. The app is provided "as is," without warranty or representation of any kind, and the Government of Alberta is not responsible for any loss or damage arising from the use or non-use of the app.
